The ASP.NET for JSP/Servlet Developers Webcast series is designed to help you complement your existing Java skillset with a solid working knowledge of ASP.NET. The sessions will provide an overview of ASP.NET, compare building ASP.NET applications with building JSP/Servlet applications, and drill down into ASP.NET's architecture.
Session 1: Introduction to ASP.NET for JSP/Servlet Developers - View this event now!
This session will provide a technical overview of ASP.NET 1.1, including the basic background necessary to understand ASP.NET and how ASP.NET integrates with the .NET Framework and Microsoft IIS. During the presentation, the attendee will see the high level similarities and differences between ASP.NET and JSP/Servlets. At the same time, the attendee will be introduced to the vocabulary necessary to understand the following sessions.
Session 2: Building Applications with ASP.NET - View this event now!
In this session, the attendee will see both the similarities and differences between building a Web application in ASP.NET vs. building one using Java. This session will dive into the technical aspects of setting up a new project, developing content, configuring the application, deploying the application, and maintaining the application post deployment.
Session 3: Architecture Deep Dive - View this event now!
The attendees in this session will see how the design choices employed in ASP.NET lead to a very different internal architecture than the Java Web framework. The attendees will learn how the ASP.NET architecture is constructed and see how to extend the framework to solve the same business needs as are handled in Java through Tapestry, Struts and other add-on Web frameworks. In addition, this session will provide detailed instruction on how to map Java Web components such as Java ServerFaces, and tag libraries into equivalent ASP.NET components.
Session 4: Migrating to ASP.NET - View this event now!
The final session will introduce the tools and techniques necessary to migrate a Java based Web application into ASP.NET. Although this session will introduce and provide examples on how to use the Java Language Conversion Assistant, the primary focus will be on the architectural considerations necessary in any migration. Specifically, the session will focus on the two phase nature of migration (migrate to ASP.NET, then adapt to ASP.NET) rather than just the mechanics of translating code.
